White House Wedding Wishes

As a Capitol Hill staffer, it’s no secret that I’m a political junkie. Whether it’s a breaking news story, a dignitary passing by my office, or election predictions ready for release, I’m always excited to be in-the-know.

So, in the run-up to our wedding, it was of course expected that I would send an invitation to the White House, if only to receive the standard response card for our scrapbook. Well, it’s finally arrived!

This memento took me right back to my early days in Washington, when I actually visited the White House, including the West Wing and Oval Office. Then an intern, I was part of a program run by Leon Panetta, a former congressman and Clinton White House chief of staff, who is now the director of the CIA. After a private meeting with Bush Chief of Staff Andy Card, plus a trip to the official press briefing room, I was hooked on D.C.

And the best part? This inspiring time in my life compelled me to stay on the East Coast, where I began my current career and started my relationship with Stephen. All in all, I think things have worked out as well as I could have hoped.

Did you or will you send an invitation to the president or any other famous folks?

  1. That is soo funny! I wish I had thought of that. My fiance and I had joked about sending an invite to Jay z and Beyonce but never went through with it. Sounds like you have a great job. I always thought a job in politics would be so glamorous, so lucky that you get to do it everyday! Tick tock, the clock is running...lol...

  2. I've been thinking more and more of doing this ever since I read about it from My Dream Ring''s blog. I would love to have this for my scrapbook as well.

  6. We too just got back our White House congrats card! I'd heard that it usually takes about 6 months to get it back, but it only took about a month and a half for us. Such a fun scrapbook addition!

  9. Very cool. I love that pic of you! Truly exciting to see how your life has unfolded. Though I had no desire to send my wedding invite to our current president, I have seen others who have sent theirs to Mickey & Minnie or to the Queen of England and such. Never would have thought of that :)

  10. Awesome! The Obamas will definitely be getting an invite from us! How exciting, and isn't it so great how life turns out? If my fiance had not been laid off from his job in San Diego, he would have never moved to Northern California, and we wouldn't have met. He now jokes around and says that getting laid off was the best thing that ever happened to him!

  13. I never thought of sending an invitation to the White House, but with what you have, a Michelle Obama signed response card, it makes me feel that you did a great idea. Oh I love her.

  14. So jealous. We never got anything back from the White house - perhaps they don't show us Aussies the love?
