Cake Inspiration: A Classic Original

Who doesn’t love tasting free cake? For us, it was one of the most fun, low-keys parts of planning the wedding! And designing our cake to fit with our wedding’s grape and wine motifs? That was pretty stress-free, too.

One reason this part was so simple? We’re sticking with a traditional cake, for the most part, while at the same time tying in our theme for a unique look. Here, an inspiration photo that shows off some of our ideas.

Our three-tier cake will feature a classic purple fondant ribbon design at the bottom of each layer.
The cake will be covered in purple and silver grapevine artwork, with a luster dust finish to create a sparkly sheen.

And flavors? We’re doing something different for each tier, with a vanilla buttercream frosting as the finishing touch.

Tier One (Bottom) – Marble cake with Oreo-cream filling

Tier Two (Middle) – Vanilla cake with cream cheese filling

Tier Three (Top) – Lemon cake with raspberry and lemon chiffon filling

Yum! I can’t wait to dig right in at the wedding!

What are your plans for the cake? Will you go the traditional route, or mix things up with a unique design?

  1. Those flavors sound delicious!

We are doing 3 tiers with different flavors as well. I told the lady I planned to eat a piece from each layer!

  2. Sounds yummy! I really want to do a cake buffet with small, 1-tier cakes.

  3. Yum, yum, yum! I'll take a slice of the lemon chiffon, please! We haven't decided on desserts yet, but we're leaning more towards a cake/pie buffet. I'm working on the logistics, but my venue package comes with one "specialty table," so we might as well take advantage.

  4. We ordered a two-tier cake for us to cut and we're having a dessert buffet with smaller cakes like red velvet, carrot, cheese cake with fruit toppings, and a chocolate mousse cake. We'll have several of each plus some homemade cookies, and some other goodies.

We will be looking at cakes when we get to Cyprus, so thats something to look forward too. Although I think cakes here are so much tastier. Oh well...

  7. Our cake was also traditional. I love the second cake because of all the purple, lol...The cake part was also my most stress free part as well. Enjoy!

  8. Again, I have much to share about the cake in our recaps...but I think the pics you shared are great. The best advice I can give is to keep it simple so you get exactly what you want. You can have a gorgeous cake without it having to be hugely extravagant. We tried for much more than we should have to try and be different and it ended exactly as I thought it would - with nothing like what we were hoping for.

I am sure those flavors will be amazing!
