Post-Wedding Adventure: It’s Back To School I Go!

And now, it’s time to share a post-wedding adventure that is NOT wedding related. Well, at least not entirely.

After a few years of searching, I’m thrilled to have finally found a master’s program that excites and inspires me! Luckily, I was recently accepted, and this fall, I’ll start working part-time toward earning my publishing degree from The George Washington University.

The program’s a perfect way to continue my education while getting back to my roots in the journalism and communications world, which I’ve lately realized just how much I truly miss.

My ultimate goal? To obtain the business skills and know-how to break into online wedding publishing. I’ve already got some ideas in this area, but first, I want to hear from you.

Brides, what do you look for in an online wedding magazine or website? What would make you want to read it and keep coming back for more? Which angles do you think haven’t yet been covered well by the mainstream websites and bridal guides out there? Any and all thoughts are definitely welcome!

  1. Yay, good for you! I really love wedding sites that highlight wedding traditions from other cultures and feature a lot of interracial/interfaith/fusion weddings. I'm sure this is because I am going to have a wedding like this . . . thus far I have found it very difficult to find much about fusion weddings, period.

And good photography and images/eye candy never hurts either!

  6. Congratulations! I'll have to think about your question a little bit more...because they are both questions that I've asked myself as well. And the internet world is such a constantly changing landscape..what is "untapped" today...may not be "untapped" tomorrow. But I will say that pictures, pictures, pictures and videos..visually appealing, eye catching posts are what keep me coming back to a website.

  7. Congrats! I used to work in publishing! I probably don't have a good answer to your question though, I never really read any online magazines. I spend about $80 on print mags when we first got engaged, and then moved exclusively to blogs. But my guess would be lots and lots of eye candy is what any bride is looking for!

  9. Congratulations! So exciting! Seems like you're well on your way to accomplishing your goal. The only thing I can suggest is that a lot of wedding sites seem to look the same to me after a while. I definitely think it's important to find a new angle. That's what attracts me to sites, wedding or otherwise...something different. (And humor of course!)

  10. Congratulations; thats so exciting!

I dont really read any online mags, a read a lot of printed mags during wedding planning but then it was all blogs and what I always wanted to see was pictures of how people had done things / made things etc.

Hope you enjoy the studying! I finally finished studying in March last year when I became an Architect after almost 10 years of it so I wouldnt go back again now!
