Home Improvement: Love Seats, Sofas & Marriage

While many newly married couples start looking into buying a home, or may have already bought one before the wedding, for Stephen and I, this is not an option. Since the two of us may ultimately decide to head back to California or make our way to another area after just a few more years, buying a home in our current location just doesn't seem like a wise move in the long-run.

So, though there will be no home-buying in our immediate future, thanks to our guests' generosity and the fact that we plan to start entertaining more often now that we're hitched, it only seemed natural to spruce up our apartment at least a bit.

Our biggest and most exciting purchase to date? A new sofa and loveseat set! Though it may not sound too significant to anyone else, not only does our new furniture make our home more inviting to guests, it makes it feel more like home to us, as well.

Did you or will you do a lot of redecorating or home improvement following the wedding? Is buying a house on your radar?

  1. I wish buying a house was on our radar! But we live in a very expensive city so it'll be a few years before we're ready financially. In the meantime, it's fun to decorate our apartment :)

  3. Well, I know a ton of people who buy houses/condos right after they're married. We're not there yet (financially) but I love hearing about everyone else's adventures (and learning from them :)

  4. I hear you, lady! My husband owns a house in La Jolla, but there is no way we can afford a $1.5 million home here in San Francisco. I'm really excited to spruce up our apartment a bit, too. Your new couch is perfect!

  5. We're actually in the process of short selling our condo (my husband bought it before we met) due to the economy. We'll probably end up renting for a few years before buying again. So we're going a bit in reverse. But we're hoping to at least be able to rent a place bigger than what we own right now.

  7. New furniture is exciting! I really, really want a house, but right now we're renting a three bedroom apartment for a steal so it doesn't make sense for us to move. Hopefully after the wedding I can spruce it up a bit and make it more homey.

  9. Ugh, Mr Fix It had his own house when we got married and we each had all of our own furniture. I ended up selling several things and he sold a few things as well. I left my dining and living room sets with my mother since she moved into my old place (it was her condo I rented from her) and then I gave my bed to my daughter and brought only my dresser and a small end table with me to my hubby's place.

The ONE thing we did buy together after we got married was a new futon/fold out bed for our office/guest room. It was nothing nearly as nice as yours probably is but it was a little something we needed and bought together. :)

  10. He wants a new house since we currently live in mine. We considered his townhouse (which he's renting) but it is a true bachelor pad (no paint on the walls, builder grade stuff, 15 yr old carpet...we'd have to spend THOUSANDS to make it my idea of habitable). in the meantime, we are going to shop for a new sofa and dresser so that "my place" can feel more like "our place".

  11. No wedding, but I got VERY excited about my couch and matching chair! New furniture can do wonders to make a place feel like home :)

  12. I've started redecorating our apartment, one room at a time. Still on the living room.

  13. We plan to stay in the same house where he stays now after our marriage. And since the house is well furnished, we will not need much new furniture. Just a cosy double bed and a dresser will do.
