Sweet Seats: Sweetheart or Head Table?

Greetings from D.C.! Yes, we’re home from our Hawaiian honeymoon, which was absolutely amazing, and a full set of recaps is headed your way very soon.

But before I start in with all the fun pictures and stories about our day, I thought I'd talk seating. I, for one, have never been a huge fan of head tables. They’re big, boxy, and can make it difficult for everyone to talk to one another.

From the day we booked our venue, there was no question that a sweetheart table was the way to go. It would allow us to share a few private moments during dinner, and would allow the rest of our guests to enjoy the conversational ease of round tables. Plus, rather than force our wedding party and family members to all sit together, we instead split them up throughout the room, placing them alongside their own friends and relatives.

The result? The dinner hour was filled with lots of laughter, plenty of good times, and even a few shenanigans here and there! Photos and details to come…

At your wedding, will you be going with a sweetheart or head table? What’s your reason?

  1. Welcome back! Can't wait for your recaps!

We're also doing a sweetheart table, for the same reasons you listed in your post.

  2. I love the idea of a sweetheart table, but my fiance was opposed. He said he feels like everyone will be "staring" at us. So, we're going to have a king's table and have our bridal party sit with us (with their dates - no splitting them up just because they are the bridal party). Our parents also don't like "being stared at" so they wanted to sit at a separate table near the front.

Sigh. I have a feeling that seating will be very complicated for us to sort out. Welcome back!

  3. We didn't do a sweetheart table because I really wanted to be able to sit with our wedding party which are our closest friends. My hubby and I had the whole honeymoon to ourselves to I really wanted to be able to talk to our friends while at the wedding.

We did a long head table with seating on both sides so that everyone could talk more easily and I think it worked out well.

  4. Our wedding was so small that we didn't have to worry about it, but if we had gotten married at home, we would have done a sweetheart table. It would have made the most sense for us.

WELCOME BACK! I hope you guys had an amazing time!

  5. We went with a head table, just because the room "flowed" better, layout wise. In the end, we were so busy dancing that the head table was empty for almost the entire time!

  8. I wasn't really familiar with the concept of either, but when I envisioned my seating chart is was always round tables. So sweetheart it is!

  9. We also went the sweetheart route because almost all of our wedding party was married with children and we wanted them to be able to hang with their families. Plus, we ended up not even sitting at our sweetheart table for more than like a couple minutes during the toasts because we kept getting up while eating to hug people who were wandering up to us or by the table :)

  10. Glad you had an amazing honeymoon! Congratulations and I loved your sneak peak photos!!! Can't wait to see the rest :)

I agree with you about the sweetheart table. We did that for our reception and it was really nice. We also ended up not spending much time there though because we were visiting our guest's tables to mingle!
