Engaged For a Year & Going to the Chapel in Two Months!

I can hardly believe that a year ago today, after being thwarted by hordes of tourists at the D.C. Tidal Basin, Stephen proposed to me over cake and champagne from our favorite bakery.

How vividly I remember the excitement of that night -- calling our families and friends, daydreaming about all the planning that had yet to begin, and reflecting upon everything that had brought us to this place in our lives. Of course, time has slipped by so quickly, and now, in less than two months, we’ll become husband and wife during the amazing celebration we’ve spent the past year pouring so much love, energy and passion into.

In honor of the anniversary of our engagement, here are more shots my sister snapped last spring at Gardens of the World, plus a couple from the low-key party that followed. I know it’s cliché, but I really feel like we just took these pictures a few months ago!

How long is or was your engagement? How did you celebrate after the proposal?

  1. We got engaged in December and will be married in October... so 10 months. He proposed in NYC so after we went for a champagne brunch with my parents at Cafe Lalo - my favorite place in NYC. And then we just walked around, me in total bliss, calling friends and family, and smiling uncontrollably. :)

  2. Happy Engageaversary! I love those champagne glasses. We'll be engaged for a year and three months by the time the big day arrives - I don't think we have plans to celebrate yet, but I'm sure we'll make some as it draws closer.

  3. So exciting! Our engagement will be about 16 months total (just 10 more days left). He officially proposed on Christmas Day so of course we saw some family and friends and then made tons of phone calls to all of the family. :)

  5. My engagement was 1 year, I think! LOL! We got engaged about 6 months after we started dating. Which was about 6 months after we met. We didn't have an engagement party or anything. I wonder if it's to late after being married almost 5 years to go back and have an engagement party? LOL! ~;o)

  6. Our engagement was 2 years. I originally wanted earlier, but between trying to save and the fiance's siblings (one got married 9 months before us, and the other suddenly snuck in 5 months before us) we ended up having to stretch it out.

In the end, I'm sooo glad we stretched it out -- we would have had real budget problems, and I would have gone crazy from stress.

  7. our engagement is going to be one year in may. he did it in the morning in order to surprise me, and then we had to go to work. :( but we went to my parents' house that night and went out for drinks with friends afterwards, and then had an engagement party a few months later.
