Asking My Bridesmaids, The Uncreative Way

Post-engagement season, I hear tons of chatter amongst brides about the quandary of choosing their bridesmaids and the creative ways they hope to ask these lovely ladies to stand beside them during such a memorable occasion.

That’s why I’m somewhat embarrassed to admit that as passionate and up-to-speed as I am about weddings, I was as least creative as possible when it came to asking the girls. The truth is, as soon as Stephen popped the question, I was so happy and excited that I called all seven of them right away to share the news and ask if they’d be in our wedding party!

And since I’ve had the same close-knit circle of friends for years, there was no doubt in my mind from that very first moment which special ladies I hoped to have by my side, along with my sister as maid of honor. I’m grateful that although I may not have gotten any points in the creativity department, they were excited just the same, and they all said yes!

Did you think up a creative way to ask your bridesmaids, and how easy or difficult was it to choose who to include?

  2. I was the same way...I didn't even really think about the option of doing some creative way to ask them until AFTER I asked them all! I did send them a little "will you be my bridesmaid" e-card that theknot.com provides on their website..but that was after I had officially asked each of them either in person or over the phone!

  3. I did the same as you, when I called to tell them I was engaged I asked them to be bridesmaids. I don't think any were really surprised that I asked :)

  4. I did a combination of both - I called and asked all of them, but then put together cute gift bags with a thank-you note telling them how excited I was that they said "yes." Sometimes it's just too hard to hold in the good news!

  5. I think calling them is great and still very personal. I called my bridesmaids too shortly after he proposed. I just wanted to share the news right away!

  6. Totally not creative either. I just called and asked them over the phone. And I think that's fine! Isn't there enough pressure on us brides already!?!

  7. I think calling them in all your excitement is just as personal and special as thinking of something "creative".

  8. I did make little cards to ask my bridesmaids, but nothing too over the top. Deciding who to ask was the difficult part, we eventually decided that uneven numbers on either side was the way to go, to make it easier!

  9. I think it's totally fine to have just asked them. The excitement is in getting asked, not how it's done! I sent my girls a card with a photo of us on the front, and wrote a personalized poem inside. It was cute and really easy to make.

  10. Not much creativity here-although it was a bit difficult! We are having a small wedding, so we made a decision early on to have very few attendants.. which made who to ask very confusing! Instead of worrying about bff's from high school I seldom speak to anymore, I simply went with my best friend and my sister. Two weeks after the proposal, I mentioned it to them over the phone-no creativity here! :)

  11. I wasnt creative either; hadnt seen all the fab ideas by then!

I decided who then called them all to ask them, same as you did.

  12. I wasn't very creative either, so don't feel bad. I think the same amount of thought went into picking mine even if i didn't ask in a special way. And hopefully with all that we tried to do for our bridal party as gifts, they know how special they were to us :) I'm sure your Bridesmaids also knew! :)

  13. Cute picture!

I was a little creative, I "proposed" to my four bridesmaids by DIY'ing a box with "Will you..." and in the inside "be my bridesmaid and/or Matron of Honor?" and inside was a ring pop. I mailed them and they all got them on the same day and were all so excited and of course said yes! :)

Thanks for the invite to Wedzilla, unfortunately, I'm so swamped with school, closing on a house, and the wedding plans but thank you so much for asking. You're so sweet!

  14. I was the same way! I just picked up the phone after we got engaged! And I also got to ask my two stepdaughters in person to be my bridesmaids! :) They were so excited! We all still think about our wedding!
