Boudoir Shoot: A Holiday Gift To Myself

As a Wish Upon a Wedding DC board member, I talked our online auction up a storm throughout the past couple months, and I’m so grateful to those of you who took the time to bid in support of couples in need. I even took the opportunity to bid on a couple items myself, and guess what? I won!

One item I won is a car detailing service for our trusty Jetta, but the other much more exciting item is a boudoir photo session for me! I’ve shared before that I’ve gone back and forth about whether to do one of these shoots, but the auction really inspired me to just go for it. I guess it's time to bring out some of my bridal shower goodies...

I’m not sure when I’ll book the session, but probably not for a couple months, partly so that things can settle down with my work transition, but mostly so that I can whip my lazy, eggnog-sipping, pecan-pie eating butt back into shape after the holidays! Talk about motivation!

Any tips for me, ladies, from those who have done a shoot like this before? How should I prepare, and how should I go about choosing an outfit I'm comfortable with? Do you think professional hair and makeup is a must? I’m a little nervous, but think it's definitely time to push my boundaries and take on a new challenge after the past couple months of stress and uncertainty. So, here goes nothing!

  2. Good for you! I didn't do a boudoir shoot, mainly because neither my husband nor I would really know what to do with the photobook after, but they always turn out so great. Every time I see photos from these shoots online, it makes me regret not doing one. I would definitely have at least professional makeup done. As for hair, the tousled, natural look probably works best. Have fun getting back into shape, though I'm sure you still look amazing despite eggnog and pie :)

  3. I did one of these shoots back in August for my husbands birthday. It took me a while to get comfortable, but after a glass of wine I was ready to go!

  4. I really want to do one of these for a 1st anniversary present. Please let us know how it goes. What photographer are you using? I don't think my wedding photog does these so I would have to find a new one.

  5. Been there done that and shot that! I did a boudoir for myself and I have shot them. They are SO much fun for brides. And don't worry too much about how your body looks. A skilled photographer can work what your got!

  7. Awesome! I've never done a shoot and I'm not sure I'll do one (basically the same reason as Party Planner Gal - not sure what we'd do with the book after...) I agree that you should at least get pro-makeup done. I hope you have a blast!

  9. Boudoir photos are fun and sexy. If I don't do it as a wedding gift. I will definitely do it as a 1st anniversary.

  10. That is so cool! I think you already look fabulous but its a great way to motivate yourself too! I've never done one but with any photo, I realized the prettiest, sexiest or greatest things about any photo is when the subjects are having fun and just being themselves. You will have a great session! I can't wait to hear all about it!

  12. Hey ladies. Heather won the session with me! You don't have to do it for an anniversary or because your a bride to be. A lot of my clients do it to spice up their love life or just to say they were a glamorous model for a day. All shapes and sizes

  13. Wow, what great wins!

I'd say definitely get your makeup done, since it looks so different in photos. When I did my boudoir I just went to a Mac counter, and it turned out great in the photos. And bring lots of outfits with you, because you might change your mind on the day-of (or feel extra confident and want to go with something more revealing than you intended). And finally, relax and have fun! Lots of people recommend a glass or two of wine, but wine gives me pink cheeks, so I just drank a 5 hour energy drink right before my session. It's small and non-carbonated, so won't fill you up!
