Yes, putting a bit of a black cloud over today’s happy milestone is the fact that my new gown has still not arrived at the shop. In fact, while I initially understood that it might be in around May 7, I was told today that May 7 is actually the ship date for the gown, and that it won’t arrive for 5-7 business days after that.
Furthermore, the earliest alteration date available for me is May 20! Now, I’m usually pretty calm about things, and have everything else for the wedding well under control. But this situation has me really rattled and worried that the alterations won’t be done in time for me to either ship the gown to California or carry it onto the plane when I leave on May 29.
In the end, I know this is my fault. I simply waited too long to change my mind about my gown, and this is the result. I’m now scared that it’s somehow not going to work out, and that I’m going to be left without a dress for my wedding day, since I never completed the alterations on my first gown.
Has anyone else been in this situation, or do you have any helpful ideas or thoughts? Advice and encouragement are more than welcome today!
You might have to get rush alterations, but you should be able to have them finished.
ReplyDeleteGood luck! I'm sure everything will work out!
ReplyDeleteIs there somewhere else you could go for alterations? That can start them sooner? Might be worth checking out. Although I think things will work out fine. Alterations can be worked on within a few days when necessary. Fingers crossed
ReplyDeleteAww, Heather, I'm so sorry! I can relate - I ordered my gown in November and was told it would be in around the end of March. I called at the beginning of April, and it wasn't in. Now, the owner of the boutique I bought it from is on vacation for a month, and apparently not returning calls. I honestly don't know what I'll do if it doesn't come in - I'm SO nervous. It sounds like you at least have a guaranteed "ship date," so you are in decent shape. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you!
ReplyDeleteWow!! Can you believe that you are only one month way?!?!
ReplyDeleteIt is going to work out just fine. You might have to rush with alterations but don't freak out!! Don't let these last days stress get to you...everything will be perfect!!

Will you need a lot of alterations?? I'm sure if you pay more than can rush to get them done in time. I'm sure it will be fine, try not to stress.
ReplyDeleteOh no! I would be freaking out too! Hopefully you don't need too many alterations done. Fingers crossed :)
ReplyDeleteI agree with Chocolate Lover. See if there's someone else who can do the alterations for you. It might actually work out cheaper.
ReplyDeleteLike the other ladies said, try to find another seamstress. My dress only took 2-3 weeks for the 3 fittings so hopefully yours should too (and I had major alterations!)
ReplyDeleteBicoastal,
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry to hear that! All I can suggest is maybe call the shop and find out what your options are or call around for a few seamstresses that may not be as busy and can do the alterations fast. I know it will work out, hon. Keep us posted!
You'll be fine. My gown was a nightmare from start to finish - I had it altered the day before and picked it up on the way to the rehearsal dinner! It will work out. No worries!
ReplyDeleteP.s. We bustled my dress with a safety pin and everyone commented on what a good job the seamstress had done (Ha!). There is almost nothing that hollywood tape and safety pins can't fix!
ReplyDeleteDont panic!
ReplyDeleteA good seamstress should be able to do any alterations quickly.
My sisters bridesmaids dress was fitted on friday then she altered it ready to go back the next day. I know a wedding dress will take longer but they should be able to do it.
Even my intricate bodice alterations didnt take that long and there was so much detail with the lace and the buttons and the satin etc.
